The M25 clockwise from Denham (J16) to Maple Cross shuts overnight from 5 to 8 October, and the M4 link onto the M25 at Heathrow closes on 8 October.

The motorway to watch is the M25 north of Denham. National Highways has now booked the M25 clockwise between junction 16 and junction 17 to close on four nights running, Monday 5 to Thursday 8 October, 10pm to 6am, for surfacing. Last week it was two nights. That is the stretch from the M40 at Denham up to Maple Cross, and the link road onto it is closed too.

Around Heathrow, the link from the M4 at junction 4B onto the clockwise M25 at junction 15 closes on the night of Thursday 8 October, for urgent safety fence repairs. Tonight, Sunday 4 October, the anti-clockwise M25 link to the M4 is shut from 10.30pm.

On the rails, the Piccadilly line has no service at Uxbridge on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October, and the whole line closes on Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November. TfL has now also listed the whole Metropolitan line closed on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November.

This Uxbridge roadworks page lists what is genuinely closed, with dates and sources. It then covers the things that outlast any one set of cones: where to check live works, what parking really costs in the town centre, and how the road network around Uxbridge fits together. Everything below was checked on 4 October 2026.

Check today’s closures first

Hillingdon Council approves every set of roadworks in the borough and publishes a notice for each closure on its roadworks page. That page also links the live one.network map, which shows everything dug up right now: council, utility and emergency works alike. The council’s website still carries a notice about internal technical issues, so a notice may take longer than usual to appear.

For the motorways, National Highways’ road closure report lists every full closure on the M25, M40 and M4 for the coming seven days. Those two sources will always beat a static page for today’s picture, including this one.

Closed on borough roads

From the council’s published closure notices, checked on 4 October 2026:

  • Abbotsbury Gardens, Pinner: closed to today, Sunday 4 October (Cadent Gas)
  • Sidmouth Drive, Ruislip: closed Saturday 10 to Sunday 11 October (Farewell My Lovely Ltd)
  • Sweetcroft Lane, Uxbridge: closed Monday 12 to Tuesday 13 October (Affinity Water)
  • Walford Road, Uxbridge: closed Wednesday 14 to Friday 16 October (Affinity Water)
  • Linksway and The Broadwalk, Northwood: closed Thursday 15 to Saturday 17 October (Farewell My Lovely Ltd)
  • Manor Way, Ruislip: closed Saturday 24 October to Sunday 1 November (Cadent)
  • Westholme Gardens, Ruislip: closed Saturday 24 October to Sunday 1 November (Cadent)
  • Long Drive, Ruislip: closed Monday 26 to Friday 30 October (Network Rail)

Nothing new has been added since 1 October. The Close in Pinner and the two Hayes streets, Hurstfield Crescent and Eton Road, were booked to finish by 1 October and are left off here. The council’s page still shows them.

The Pinner closure sits on the Hillingdon side of the boundary with Harrow, because the council only authorises closures on its own roads.

Behind the one-off digs, the council’s borough-wide carriageway resurfacing programme runs from 20 July to 20 January 2028 and is listed in two phases, PH1 and PH2, both under “various roads”. Short-notice evening and weekend resurfacing closures will therefore keep appearing on the notices page. Separately, Harvil Road is being realigned for HS2, which the council tracks on its HS2 page.

What it means for you: no through route in the borough is affected. Every closure on the list is a residential street. The first Uxbridge streets are Sweetcroft Lane on 12 and 13 October and Walford Road from 14 to 16 October. Ruislip has the busiest end of the month, with three streets shut in the last week of October.

Motorways: the nights to avoid

National Highways’ seven-day closure report, dated Friday 2 October and covering the nights to Thursday 8 October, carries these closures near Uxbridge. All are overnight.

Night Closed Hours Work
Sunday 4 October M25 anti-clockwise link from J15 to the M4 at J4B 10.30pm to 5.30am Urgent barrier repairs
Monday 5 October M25 clockwise, J16 Denham to J17 Maple Cross, carriageway and link road 10pm to 6am Surfacing
Tuesday 6 October M25 clockwise, J16 to J17 10pm to 6am Surfacing
Wednesday 7 October M25 clockwise, J16 to J17 10pm to 6am Surfacing
Wednesday 7 October M25 clockwise entry slip at J14, Heathrow Terminal 5 10pm to 5.30am Safety fence repairs
Thursday 8 October M25 clockwise, J16 to J17 10pm to 6am Surfacing
Thursday 8 October Link from the M4 (both directions) at J4B onto the M25 clockwise at J15 10pm to 5.30am Urgent safety fence repairs

The J16 to J17 diversion uses National Highways and local authority roads. The Heathrow-corner closures are signed via the motorway network.

The report has no closures on the M40 at Denham or on the M4 at junctions 1 to 4 for the week. The M4 eastbound exit slip at junction 2, closed on recent nights for concrete repairs, last appears on the night of Friday 2 October.

What it means for you: anyone joining the M25 at Denham towards Watford on Monday to Thursday night follows the diversion. Coming home from the west on the M4 late on Thursday, you cannot turn north onto the M25 at junction 4B, so stay on the M4 to junction 4 and come up through Hayes, or plan round it. The A40 through Hillingdon has no works on it at all.

Tube and rail

The Piccadilly line runs normally to Uxbridge until mid October. TfL lists good service on the Piccadilly and Metropolitan lines for the weekends of 10 to 11 October and 24 to 25 October (TfL line status).

Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October: TfL lists no Piccadilly service between Hammersmith and Heathrow and Uxbridge from 01:00 on Saturday and all day Sunday, the Friday and Saturday Night Tube included.

Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November: TfL lists no service on the entire Piccadilly line from 01:00 on Saturday and all day Sunday, again including the Night Tube.

For both Piccadilly weekends, TfL’s advice is:

  • Metropolitan line between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge
  • Elizabeth line between central London and Heathrow, and between terminals
  • replacement buses

Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November: TfL lists no service on the entire Metropolitan line, and no Chiltern Railways trains between Marylebone and Aylesbury Vale Parkway via Amersham. This time the advice runs the other way: use the Piccadilly line between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge.

The Elizabeth line at West Drayton and Hayes has four Sundays of reduced service:

  • Sunday 11 October: no service between West Drayton and Slough until 8.15am. Replacement bus W1 runs between Hayes and Harlington and Slough via West Drayton.
  • Sunday 18 October: two trains an hour at West Drayton, six at Hayes and Harlington. Acton Main Line, Hanwell and West Ealing are closed.
  • Sunday 25 October: two trains an hour at West Drayton.
  • Sunday 1 November: the same pattern as 18 October.

Times and fares are in our Uxbridge to London guide.

What it means for you: three weekends to plan around. On 17 to 18 October and 31 October to 1 November the Metropolitan line is the only tube out of Uxbridge. On 7 to 8 November it is the other way round, and the Piccadilly is the only one.

On the A40 into London

Transport for London’s live register lists no current works on the Hillingdon stretch of the A40, and no works anywhere in the borough.

Further in, the A40 Westway is closed eastbound between the Westway Roundabout and the Marylebone flyover from 10pm on Friday 16 October to 5am on Monday 19 October, continuously, for works. The same closure runs this weekend until 5am on Monday 5 October. That is the main road from Uxbridge into central London, so on those weekends a drive in leaves the A40 at White City at the latest.

The A312 Church Road works at Bengarth Road, Northolt, listed last week, have come off the register. The A4020 runs for miles under the name Uxbridge Road, through Southall, Hanwell and Ealing, so check the borough before assuming a “Uxbridge Road” closure is local (TfL road disruptions).

The key routes, for orientation

Schematic of the main roads around Uxbridge Map-style diagram. The M25 runs north to south on the west side, meeting the M40 at junction 16 near Denham. The M40 becomes the A40 Western Avenue running east toward London, passing north of Uxbridge at Swakeleys and Hillingdon Circus. The A4020 Uxbridge Road runs east from Uxbridge town centre toward Hayes End and Ealing. The A412 runs north from Uxbridge toward Denham and Watford. The A408 runs south toward West Drayton and the M4 at Heathrow. How the roads fit together Schematic, not to scale. Motorways dark, A-roads mid blue. The geography explains the traffic. The M40 begins at junction 1, the Denham roundabout, just across the county line, where it meets the A40, A412 and A4020. Half a mile on, junction 1A is the M25 at its junction 16 (M40 junction layout).

Eastbound, the A40 Western Avenue is a Transport for London road corridor, live status here. It passes north of the town at Swakeleys and Hillingdon Circus. Everything else, including the A4020 through the town centre, is Hillingdon’s, and is notified on the council roadworks page.

What a day’s parking actually costs

The big town-centre option is The Chimes shopping centre car park: over 1,550 spaces, cash-free with number-plate recognition. Level 1 is open around the clock and levels 2 to 6 run 6am to 1am.

Current tariffs, Monday to Saturday: 2 hours £2.60, 3 hours £3.65, 4 hours £4.70, 5 hours £5.70, 6 hours £6.75, 8 hours £9.35, 10 hours £11.95, 24 hours £26. Evenings, arriving after 6pm and leaving by 1am, cost £2.10. Sundays are £3.00 for up to 5 hours, then the weekday rates above that. Blue Badge holders get up to 6 hours free, with standard rates after that (The Chimes parking, rechecked 20 September 2026).

On-street, town-centre pay and display runs 80p per 15 minutes for Hillingdon residents and £1.40 per 15 minutes for everyone else, with a 2-hour maximum stay. It is generally enforced 8am to 6:30pm Monday to Saturday, and is free outside those hours, on Sundays and on bank holidays (Hillingdon street parking charges).

What it means for you: The Chimes beats the street at almost any duration. Two hours costs £2.60 there against £11.20 at the non-resident street rate, and the street’s two-hour cap rules out a working day anyway.

Buses, and the station

Uxbridge station is the hub. Routes 222, 331, 427, A10, U1, U2, U3, U4, U5, U7, U9 and U10 all serve it. Three are worth knowing even if you never ride the rest:

  • A10: direct to Heathrow Central bus station (TfL)
  • Superloop SL8: the Uxbridge Road corridor to Ealing and White City (TfL)
  • U1: Ruislip, Uxbridge High Street and West Drayton station (TfL), the easy way to reach the Elizabeth line

Tube times, fares and station parking are covered in our Uxbridge to London guide.

Heathrow, the long-term one

The biggest roadworks story in Hillingdon’s future is not scheduled yet. Heathrow’s third-runway proposals include diverting the M25 into a new tunnel built 130 metres west of the current motorway, with new link roads separating through-traffic from M4 movements. The plans went to government in summer 2025 and no construction date has been set (Heathrow). Where the wider expansion process stands is tracked on our Uxbridge planning news page.

Frequently asked questions

What roadworks are happening in Uxbridge right now?

Nothing in Uxbridge itself is on the council’s list until Sweetcroft Lane on 12 and 13 October, followed by Walford Road from 14 to 16 October. Elsewhere in the borough, Abbotsbury Gardens in Pinner is closed to 4 October. The council’s roadworks page carries the live list.

Is the M25 closed at night near Uxbridge?

Yes, on five nights this week. The anti-clockwise link from junction 15 to the M4 closes tonight, 4 October. The clockwise M25 from junction 16 at Denham to junction 17 closes every night from 5 to 8 October. On 8 October the link from the M4 onto the clockwise M25 at junction 15 is shut too. Check National Highways’ closure report before a late airport run.

Is the M4 closed this week?

Not the main carriageway near Uxbridge. The only M4 closure nearby is the link from junction 4B onto the clockwise M25, overnight on 8 October.

Is the Piccadilly line running to Uxbridge?

Yes, until the weekend of 17 and 18 October, when TfL lists no service between Hammersmith and Uxbridge or Heathrow. The whole line then closes on 31 October and 1 November. The Metropolitan line to Baker Street is TfL’s recommended alternative from Uxbridge on both weekends.

Is the Metropolitan line closed?

Not until Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November, when TfL lists no service on the entire line. Use the Piccadilly line from Uxbridge that weekend.

Is the M40 closed near Uxbridge?

Not at Denham. National Highways’ report has no M40 closures between Denham and junction 3 for the week to 8 October.

Where can I check live roadworks in Hillingdon?

Two places: Hillingdon Council’s roadworks notices with the linked one.network map for borough roads, and National Highways travel updates for the M25, M40 and M4.

Where is the cheapest parking in Uxbridge town centre?

For stays over two hours, The Chimes car park: £3.65 for three hours and £9.35 for eight, against a £1.40-per-15-minutes street rate with a two-hour cap for non-residents. On Sundays The Chimes charges a flat £3.00 for up to five hours.

Does Uxbridge station have a car park?

No. Hillingdon station, one stop out, has one, and The Chimes multi-storey is a short walk from the Uxbridge platforms. Our tube guide covers the station options.
